Identity Design

Identity Design

Brand Definition & Creative Strategy

I take a strategic approach to identity design, and in most cases, the process starts with a brand definition workshop (+). This is designed to establish a clear, distinctive and engaging brand voice that will underpin your visual identity. The logos and brand assets I design as a result are simply the creative expression of these workshops in visual form.

The insights generated by my workshops will also help you shape strategies and practices across your organisation, so they provide real added value. If you’re looking for an identity that truly represents your ethos, your objectives, your work and your aspirations, then please get in touch (+).

The Wellgate Project

The Wellgate Project

Dundee Local History Centre’s Wellgate Project (+) celebrates the Wellgate, one of the oldest streets in Dundee, which was demolished in the 1970s. The aim of the project is to create a publicly-generated archive of stories, pictures and artefacts that tell the story of the street. The backwards facing bracket in the logo was designed to suggest the idea of ‘gathering history’.

In Cahootz

In Cahootz

In Cahootz is a community arts organisation, working mainly with drama-based techniques. They provide life-affirming, life-changing, creative opportunities for marginalised individuals and groups. I designed their logo to place emphasis on the sense of fun, creativity and connection that they aim to generate in their work.

Creative Change Collective

Creative Change Collective

The Creative Change Collective help people bring about positive change in their lives through creative practices associated with film, theatre and performance. The different weights and styles of the letters in the logo, and the variations in the spaces between them, are intended to suggest the process of change that they aim to achieve through their work.

Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire

Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire

Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire is the Third Sector Interface for community and voluntary organisations in North Lanarkshire. It provides support and development opportunities for its members, and promotes volunteering opportunities to the public. The logo was developed as the visual basis for a messaging campaign, based around the phrase ‘Working With You’.

Glasgow Wood

Glasgow Wood

Glasgow Wood build high quality furniture from reclaimed timber, and provide training and volunteering opportunities to help address unemployment and social exclusion. The logo, which I designed with Meghan Rae, a student at City of Glasgow College, was inspired by the cantilevered arm of the Titan Crane on the site of the former Barclay Curle Shipyard where they are based.

Project 50

Project 50

Sacro is a community justice organisation that was established to help reduce conflict and offending. Project 50 was launched in Sacro’s 50th year, to provide focal point around which staff and stakeholders could consider how the organisation should evolve and develop. I designed the Project 50 logo to convey the sense of energy and possibility that it was hoped to harness.

Kingsway Community Connections

Kingsway Community Connections

Kingsway Community Connections is a community development centre, set up and run by local people in the Scotstoun area of Glasgow. The logo is intended to suggest the centre’s dual role as a community hub, and as a source of opportunities for personal growth and fulfilment. As well as designing the logo, I led the team through the process of choosing the name.

The Advocacy Project

The Advocacy Project

The Advocacy Project offers free, independent support to people affected by decisions involving health and social care. The logo, which was a collaboration with fellow designer, Fiona McWhinnie, features a ‘hidden’ equals sign, reflecting the idea of ‘Equality Through Advocacy’, which we identified as part of the brand definition process, and which underpins The Advocacy Project’s work.

Really Engaged

Really Engaged

Really Engaged is a media, marketing and events agency created to support the higher and further education sectors. I helped the team establish their core brand values and name through a series of brand strategy workshops. I designed the logo to work as a ‘signature’ to convey their personal commitment to their work – an idea that developed out of the branding process.

demofest

DemoFest

DemoFest was an annual showcase that highlighted the best in informatics and computing science research in Scotland’s universities. The arrows that make up to star in the logo represented the event’s role as a focal point for academia and industry. The asterisc formed by the negative space between the arrows references the ‘Kleene Star’ in the logo of the event’s organiser, SICSA.

The Only Way Is Ethics

The Only Way is Ethics

The Only Way is Ethics was conceived as a space for positive engagement, where different points of view would be welcomed. I designed the question mark / heart device at the centre of the logo to convey this message.

legacy research network

The Legacy Research Network

The Legacy Research Network was established to examine the social, economic and environmental benefits of major sporting events such as The Olympics and The Commonwealth Games. My design references classic Olympic pictograms and colours.

art nouveau

Art Nouveau & Natural Forms in Glasgow’s Architecture

I designed this identity for one of a series of annual photographic competitions for schools that was run by Glasgow City Heritage Trust. The styling of the logo set the tone for a presentation pack that I also created, and which featured the winning entries.

Fab Pad

Fab Pad

Fab Pad was a programme run by Impact Arts to support young people moving into rented accommodation. The block of coloured circles was suggested by the in-house team. I developed that concept to convey the idea of ‘home’.

Impact Arts Logo

Impact Arts

Impact Arts is a community arts organisation that operates across the Central Belt. I was commissioned to design a strong, bright, approachable and creative identity to echo the confidence and ambition of the organisation’s name and aims.

GCHT Logo

Glasgow City Heritage Trust

Glasgow City Heritage Trust champions the city’s historic built environment with a forward-thinking approach to conservation. The icons that make up the logo reference some of the architectural features in which the Trust has special interest.
